Her
Royal Highness Princess Sumaya, Chairman of the Princess Sumaya
University for Technology (PSUT) Board of Trustees, has assumed her
duties as president of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS).
In a letter addressed to Princess Sumaya, His Royal Highness Prince
Hassan, Chairman of the RSS Board of Trustees, expressed his confidence
in her achievements in developing PSUT since its establishment and
entrusted her with heading the RSS as its president as of October 1,
2006.
In his appointment message, Prince Hassan said, “I am certain that you
will lead the Society to the highest of levels in terms of scientific
research that is based on solid thought, worthwhile endeavours, team
spirit and cooperation with universities in Jordan and abroad, and in
terms of attracting necessary funding for the Society’s scientific and
technological research.”
He added that the RSS is in need of a reinvigorated action plan that
builds on what the founders have achieved.
Princess Samaya plays a leading role in the technological and
educational fields. An advocate of scientific and technological
advancement, the Princess has spearheaded efforts to restructure PSUT to
make it a cornerstone of Jordan’s emerging status as an IT hub for the
region.
Princes Sumaya’s interest and background complement the RSS’ new
direction, which calls for vigorous cooperation between universities,
industry as well as the private and public sectors.
As president of RSS, the Princess will be overseeing the country’s
largest applied research institution, a consultation and technical
service provider with over 600 staff members and seven technical centers
and departments housing 38 specialised laboratories. |
